We love to travel the world and it can be even better if you share it with friends.  We have some friends that we travel with and we always have fun. Traveling with friends can be tricky especially if they are not used to traveling and of course we have our routines and our way of doing things simply because we travel so much that things become routine to us.  But what might be routine to us may not be to someone else.

We are thinking about going to Greece again next fall on a sailboat, touring the islands and staying at Santorini to end our travels.  We asked some friends to meet us there, and though we will spend three weeks we understand they can only spend one week, no problem we can accommodate that easily.   But then they told us they can’t come and one reason is because they think it is “too exotic” for them.   I was not sure what to say about that, so I thought on it a bit.

I realise that for some people the thought of sailing on a sail boat through the Greek Isles may seem exotic but really what was or is the issue?   Well travel and planning can be a lot of work.  She gets sea-sick and its a long way to Greece.  It’s not just a short hop so the thought of being on an airplane that long coming and going, for those who rarely travel can be intimidating.   And then thinking about the culture, one you are unfamiliar with and now you are a long way from home and you might not be the best traveler, perhaps you get sick easily or your jet lag and time differences are hard for you to handle.. so now you are not enjoying your vacation etc.  I get that …

You should never think that something is too exotic or out of your reach when it comes to travel.  But you should def travel in your comfort zone.  If you have only been on a airplane 3 times in your entire life, maybe traveling to Greece is not for you.  But if you have been on say 100 flights than Greece is def not out of your reach, or whatever country you are thinking about seeing.

The best advice is do your research, read about where you want to go even if it seems out of your reach it probably isn’t.  Talk to people who travel and ask their advice, be prepared and most of all HAVE FUN!

You only have one life to live and if travel is your passion but you are shy about where to go or what to see, seek expert advice, ask friends who have been there, talk to others who have experience.  Travel is the best way to make new friends, see different cultures, see how the whole world lives.  It is an amazing thing.  Dont ever think something is TOO exotic for you, chances are it’s not.

Cheers!
